2022 Gentle Folk 'Scary Gully' Pinot Noir
Login to view price.Scary Gully Pinot Noir is from Gentle Folk's stable of incredibly well-made single vineyard wines. Scary Gully, the playful name given to a very steep hillside vineyard in Carey Gully, has produced some of Adelaide Hills' best Pinot Noirs for the thick end of a decade now. Gareth now farms this vineyard by himself, and produces a single vineyard wine from it each year. This wine sees extended time in barrel and in bottle before release. Small production. A wine well worth the price - it has structure, concentration of fruit and true flavour. When it comes to Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills is clearly a microclimate worth paying attention to.
From Gareth Belton, Winemaker: "
The Pinot noir at Scary Gully is one of the highest and oldest in the Adelaide Hills and sits upon a ridge of sandstone and quartz. The 2022 vintage ended up being even cooler and later than the 2021 growing season, so again we had some serious farming challenges on the steep slopes in the wet! However, the low yielding, cool and slow ripening season has resulted in wines that have a depth and tension we rarely achieve in the Hills. It is no doubt that the 2022 vintage will go down as one of the great years for Pinot noir.
