Our opinion: you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value chilled red on the shelves than this.
The 2022 vintage is mostly the Cabernets - Sauvignon and Franc - with a touch of Merlot, all from organic McLaren Vale vineyards. There's a lot of smart winemaking going on here - some whole-bunch, some carbonic maceration, a touch of destemming and direct press. The result is a quintessential quote unquote 'smashable red': ripe cherry, plum and cranberry; cassis, freshly-spread jam with a dry, spicy, earth-and-tobacco finish. Heaps of fun - a true party red.
Last year's vintage sold out within weeks, and this one looks to be no different. We suggest you get in quick!
From Tom & James: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hickinbotham vineyard run by Yangarra in the high part of Clarendon. 25% Cabernet Franc from Chalk Hill and the remaining from Merlot 10% from Zerella. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were both 100% whole bunch carbonic gassed and sealed for 12 days while the Franc was half direct pressed and half destemmed and on skins for a week. All combined once dry to tank to sit on full solids for 5 months.
