The latest addition to our Australian portfolio, Limus Wines, is brought to you by Dr. Kyatt Dixon from Mount Gambier, South Australia.
I first met Kyatt in the Adelaide Hills a few years back. He's Gareth from Gentle Folk's brother in law, and just like Gareth is a former marine biologist too (Limus means "seaweed” in Bislama, the official language of Vanuatu, where Kyatt spent a lot of his time studying). When I met Kyatt he was working in the Hills and became familiarised with the industry through Gareth, the Brodericks (Basket Range Wines), James Erskine (Jauma) and Anton van Klopper (Lucy M.).
rKyatt and his partner Anna organically farm Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay and Riesling, along with an heirloom apple and quince orchard. They also source a small amount of fruit from other organic and biodynamic growers in the region. Their production is small, from just 6 hectares, which they make into a handful of wines. Kyatt's approach is: organic farming, hand harvesting, wild fermentation, no adjustments, no fining, no filtration, and no additions (no sulphur). His wines are well-made, meticulous, detailed and delicious.
